Santorini: the caldera cliffs seen from the boat (April / May 2007)
The steep, up to 300m high cliffs of Santorini's caldera show the violent geologic and volcanic history of Santorini like in a picture book. Thick, multicolored layers of various volcanic rock have accumulated during the past 500,000 years by the volcano's activity. In places, even the non-volcanic basement can be seen (Plaka, Athinios).
